Embroidery, once thought of as strictly utilitarian, has made a resurgence in the 21st century as an accessible, meditative art form offering the artist a mode of relaxation and disconnection from the digital world. In this course, students will explore mixed media embroidery through instructor-directed projects and self-guided exploration. Students are encouraged to work with a variety of imagery, from abstract to floral and landscape incorporating fabric, paper, ribbon, beads, found objects and more.

Provided Materials and Tools:

  • 2 – 4” embroidery hoops
  • 2 – 6” embroidery hoops
  • Embroidery needles
  • Beading needles
  • Heat erasable pen
  • Scissors
  • Rulers
  • White work-surface fabrics
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Beads and Sequins
  • Paper material

Using found objects or anything specific you would like to incorporate like fabric and paper scraps, ribbon, specific beads and colors of embroidery floss. Remember the possibilities are endless!
