Art of Our Appalachian Woods & Visiting Artist Workshops

Athens, Ohio –– The Dairy Barn Arts Center announces Art of Our Appalachian Woods exhibition, which opens to the public Saturday, June 30 at 12 p.m. This exhibition is devoted to the creativity and artisanship of artists working with wood found in the Appalachian region. Art of Our Appalachian Woods will feature 90 sculptural and functional works by 38 artists creating with materials sourced from local woods.

“It’s exciting to have a woodworking exhibition return to the Dairy Barn, which will feature works by master instrument makers, furniture builders and fine wood artists,” says Holly Ittel, Quilt National and Exhibition Director.  “Our committee has worked for months to assemble a variety of wood workers representing the artistry and woods of our region.”

The opening reception of Art if Our Appalachian Woods will be held on Friday, June 29 from 5-8 p.m. at The Dairy Barn Arts Center. The show will run through September 3 with gallery hours Tuesday-Sunday 12-5 p.m. Admission is $5, free for members. Free admission for all every Wednesday.

The sponsors of the exhibition are Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Ohio Forestry Association, Southeast Ohio Woodturners, Stewart McDonald, Rural Action and Woodcraft.  These sponsors will have displays, hold workshops and contribute to the overall success of the exhibition.

The Dairy Barn Arts Center will also host several visiting artist lectures, demonstrations, and workshops from June to August. These workshops will include artists Elizabeth Runyon, Don MacRostie, Doug Unger, and Mike West of the Southeast Ohio Woodturners.  In addition, Pete Woyer of the Ohio Forestry Association and Holly Ittel will lead a gallery walk for members and volunteers.
