    Please come join Nancy and Nadine as we explore the world of hand knit socks. In this class you will learn the basics of sock foundation, different cast on and off methods and how to size for those sock worthy people in your life. Throughout the 6 week class students will be working on sample socks as well as starting to knit and complete their first (or second or third) pair of hand knit socks. Basic knitting skills are required (which means knitting and purling) and we can help you with the rest.     Come and play in the Studio and learn tons of new tricks in this unique up-cycle learning opportunity!

    We are all trying to find ways to be less wasteful in our self expression and possessions, and this workshop will add some new tools to your toolbox for re-purposing and giving second life to your fabric objects.

    Bring your own fabric bag, scarf, t-shirt or other fabric items and learn several different techniques for altering and designing the surface of them. We provide all the rest! You will use waxes and fabric paints, and explore color theory through mixing exercises.  You will mix various tints, tones, and shades and develop you understanding of complementary and analogous color schemes.  You will also get to experiment with stamping, stenciling and using wax resists.  Layer all of the techniques or use just one.  Participants will have a little show and tell at the end of the session and you will leave with new skills and objects ready to be loved anew.

    *Fabrics should natural fabrics (cotton, canvas, muslin, or cotton blends)

    This is sure to be a fun down and dirty project in one day. Come join us and make a mess.

    Join Ann and Lyn in the Fiber Studio to see some demos of how to make different types of yarn from different reused materials. Materials will only be provided for demonstrations.  If you would like to spend time practicing or preparing for upcoming workshops, please bring you own materials

    Lyn will demonstrate how to make “Tarn” or T-Shirt Yarn.
    To try it for yourself in the studio (we have the nice cutting tools!) bring several t-shirts.  Plain (no printing/image) in large sizes are best. This will be perfect for the Braided Rag Rug Workshop coming March 12.

    Ann will show how to cut or tear strips of fabric from either fat quarters or old bed sheets and run the ends through a sewing machine to make one long continuous thread prefect for crocheting.  Those attending the Crochet Rag Rug workshop the following week will need to come to class having already prepared their yarn in this way

    The last rag rug workshop for the season, learn with Lyn how to make another type of rag rug using a “braiding” method that requires no sewing! The best material for this is t-shirt yarn (Yarn) or bed sheets and it needs to be prepped before the workshop as it’s time consuming!  How do you make t-shirt yarn?  Check out this You Tube video or come to the free up-cycled yarn demo/workshop of February 27.  Want to use bed sheets? Just come with one cotton or jersey style sheet torn into 1-3 inch strips.  T-shirt yarn, or bed sheet yarn needs to be in trips no longer than 5 feet.
