About this Class:
This class is a great opportunity to start your journey into functional ceramics. The potter’s wheel is a useful tool with a long history. In this class, you will learn all the fundamentals of throwing pottery, from preparing the clay to glazing the surface. Demonstrations include cylinders, mugs, handles, bowls, and trimming. Available Open Studio time outside of regularly scheduled classes, assures that you will have plenty of time to practice your new skills. Demonstrations will include: Wedging, Wheel Throwing Basics, Cylinders, Pulling and Attaching a Handle, Bowls, Trimming, Glazing
Here is the basic week to week schedule students will follow throughout this class.
Week 1: Wedging and centering
Week 2: Pulling up a wall, creating a cylinder
Week 3: Pulling and attaching handles
Week 4: Throwing a bowl
Week 5: Trimming a bowl
Week 6: Demos and review by request
Week 7: Glaze Demonstration
Week 8: More Glazing
The materials fee is included in the total price and provides participants with up to up to 50 lbs of clay, their own starter set of pottery tools, glazes, and kiln firings. The clay used will be a white, high fire, stoneware. Almost all glazes are food safe.
