Instructor: Rachael Bailey
Wednesday evenings 5:30-7:30
8 Sessions starting January 16, 23, 30, February 6, 13, 20, 27, March 6
About this class:
This class welcomes all artists, but is specifically geared for those who want to learn how to draw from life for the first time. During this 8 week class, artists will learn how to use the sight-size method to visually measure what they see in life and translate it to 2D paper. They will learn about light sources, value and tone, depth and form, as well as perspective and dimension.
Participants will each receive a drawing kit, sketchbook, and have access to additional tools and materials while in class.
Week by Week Outline:
-Week 1: Size, form, and dimension; learning how to sketch out what we see in life on paper
-Week 2: Basic perspective; getting it to look right
-Week 3: Light source and value: identifying light source and learning how that informs our forms
-Week 4: multiple light sources: learning how to identify multiple light sources and how they interact with each other
-Weeks 6, 7, 8: bringing it all together: taking time to create finished drawings with everything we’ve learned
About the Instructor:
Rachael Bailey recently moved to Athens from New Albany, IN, near the Louisville, KY area. She graduated from Indiana University Southeast with BFAs in Drawing and in Painting, as well as an Art History Minor. She works with mixed media to make pieces which bring realism and abstract methods together to create a visceral experience, exploring her personal experiences and visually representing the emotions which accompany them. While at IU Southeast, she gained teaching experience through TAing, as well as teaching some local workshops, and found a passion for teaching which she brings with her to the Dairy Barn.
