Description
Instructor: Rachael Bailey
Wednesdays from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
8 sessions starting March 20, 27, April 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8.
This class is for students who understand basic drawing and painting techniques and want to learn how to broaden the possibilities of a single piece. We will be learning how to unite different media into one drawing by learning how to: transition between materials to create cohesion and unity, how to use dry and water-based media together, and how to use oil paint on paper with other media. The first 5 classes will be single-piece exercises with a shared image reference to build basic understanding of concepts. The last three weeks will be students choosing their images and receiving individual instructor aid to create a piece they are interested in!

About the Instructor:
Rachael Bailey recently moved to Athens from New Albany, IN, near the Louisville, KY area. She graduated from Indiana University Southeast with BFAs in Drawing and in Painting, as well as an Art History Minor. She works with mixed media to make pieces which bring realism and abstract methods together to create a visceral experience, exploring her personal experiences and visually representing the emotions which accompany them. While at IU Southeast, she gained teaching experience through TAing, as well as teaching some local workshops, and found a passion for teaching which she brings with her to the Dairy Barn.
