About this Class:
Part cultural immersion, part healing through art, this course is designed for all art enthusiasts who want to study Chinese traditional ink techniques and learn a new way to relate to art making materials.
During the five weeks of class time, the instructor will help students understand the specific processes and methods via slide show, explanations, and demonstrations. Every student will have the opportunity to work one on one with the instructor on her or his individual projects. Series will include will be both group oriented and individual activities.
- To introduce the students to a Chinese art form.
- To develop knowledge and skill in using ink materials.
- To help the students learn Chinese brush techniques.
- To guide students to combine a variety of brush stroke techniques and materials to create compositions.
The study of ink painting can produce an immediate effect of satisfaction to a student, and yet it is but a step in a never-ending journey of refinement.
Each participant will receive a set of Chinese traditional ink brushes and a unique study diary of student work made by instructor.
Peilian Wu is in Athens from China working on her MFA at Ohio University. Her work combines traditional Chinese style images with western techniques and she includes experimentation and installations as well.
