DRAWING A PORTRAIT

Catalog #B090

Photography has largely replaced portraiture for most people, but learning how to accurately capture the likeness of your subject in a sketch or drawing is very satisfying.  This session shows you how to see the hidden shapes within the human face, use light and shadow to pull the forms you find into 3D as you draw, and increase your skill at observing your subject.  The exercises and individual instruction you receive as you work will help you find the relationship of your subject’s specific features to one another; a key to drawing their likeness .  The visual tools you acquire can lead to a completed drawing or sketches to take home at the end of the session, but even better, the basic understanding of how to make more portraits on your own.

Materials to Bring: A drawing pad, a range of pencils (2B up to 8B).  Graphite pencils drawing sticks, and charcoal are optional.  The Dairy Barn will lend some of these drawing materials on a first come, first serve basis.
