QUILT NATIONAL ’23: The Best of Contemporary Quilts

AWARDS
Approximately 85 quilts will be juried into the exhibition, and the following awards will be given:
PURCHASE AWARDS
With the support of the Robert and Ardis James Foundation, four artworks will win purchase awards, and their quilts will be placed into the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Best of Show: $7,500 sponsored by MODA for the most outstanding artwork of the exhibition.
Most Innovative Use of Material: $5,000 sponsored by the Robert & Ardis James Foundation for the most innovative artwork.
Award of Excellence: $5,000 sponsored by Aurifil for outstanding artistry.
Emerging Artist: $2,500 sponsored by The Pumphrey Family to the most outstanding first-time exhibitor.
The purchase awards will be given on opening weekend, and the quilts will tour for two years and then placed in the International Quilt Museum’s Quilt National Collection for exhibition, study, and research. In the entry process, each artist will be asked if they want their quilts to be considered for the purchase awards.
CASH/TRAVEL AWARDS
These awards will be awarded to Quilt National ’23 participating artists. During the Submission process, artists will be asked to answer questions about their eligibility for these prizes.
Best International Artist Award: $1,000 awarded to the most outstanding international artist. This award is sponsored by an anonymous donor with the aim of encouraging international artists to enter Quilt National. Any accepted artist who is neither a US citizen nor a US resident (i.e. does not live in the US) is eligible.
Hillary Morrow Fletcher Persistence Pays Award: $400 Awarded to the artist who attempted the most times to gain entrance into Quilt National prior to acceptance into the 2023 exhibition.
Young Emerging Artist Award: $500 This award is selected by the jury for an artist 35 years or younger whose artwork is the most outstanding compared to others who qualify for the award.
SAQA Award: $500 Awarded sponsored by Studio Arts Quilt Associates and going to an artwork that is unique and pushing the boundaries of the art quilt.
Machine Piecing Award: $500 Awarded to one artist whose accepted artwork exhibits a high level of outstanding machine piecing.
Handwork Award: $500 Awarded to one artist whose accepted artwork exhibits a high level of outstanding handwork, including but not limited to hand-quilting and embroidery.
People’s Choice Award: $150 Given at the close of the exhibition, this prize is awarded to the artwork that received the most votes placed by our gallery visitors. Juror’s Awards: A Juror’s Award will be given to three artworks that each jury member selects individually. A total of three Juror Awards will be given.
